East Meets West:  Moderately Challenging; 5.5 miles; 800 feet total elevation gain; allow approx. 45-60 mins.

A fast flowing descent through loads of man-made berms, and then along the calm waters of the west branch of the Pussumpsic.  Climb back up to the ridge before descending the east side of Darling Hill and challenging yourself on a root-ridden climb up Sugar Hill before arriving back at Heaven’s Bench for a million dollar view!

Depart from VSS Trailside and roll down the west side of Darling Hill (do not cross road) from the back corner of the parking lot.  Follow the trail to the right when approaching pump track and ride for a bit until you see NewT on the left. Take a left on NewT (have fun!) and twist your way to the bottom, turning left on River Run.  Wind along the river until reaching Violet’s Outback, where you’ll turn right.  Follow Violet’s to an intersection where you’ll see the entrance to Border.  Enter Border and stay on trail until it ends, meeting back up with Violet’s Outback.  Turn left onto Violet’s Outback and ride a short distance to Old Web’s, where you’ll turn right and climb back up toward the Pavillion.  Stay on Old Web’s until you reach the driveway and descend to Darling Hill Rd.  Turn right for a pinch on the road until you see the gate for VAST and ride VAST to Culvert Cut, where’ you’ll turn left.  Ride Culvert Cut to Sugar Hill for a challenging climb up rooty terrain.  Turn left onto Ridge and climb Ridge until arriving at Heaven’s Bench, where you’ll turn left and continue up to the Heaven’s Bench Climbing Trail.  Climb up into the field, past the bench, and VSS Trailside will come into view.  For an easier climb back up to VSS Trailside (avoiding the steep/rooty climb up Sugar Hill), stay on VAST and ride (past Sugar Hill) all the way to Bill Magill.  Turn left at Bill Magill and ride through the field up the dirt road until VSS Trailside comes into view.
