Coming to the Northeast Kingdom for the weekend and looking for a day packed full of things to do? Do you live in the area but need summer time inspiration? We’ve got you covered!
First, stop by the Northeast Country Store in the center of East Burke, VT to fuel up for the day ahead. They have breakfast sandwiches and burritos made to order, and while you’re there you can stock up on Vermont made maple syrup, pastries, bagels, and maple candies.
From there, head to the Village Sport Shop to prepare for a morning spent boating – since the weather is hot and humid it’s the ideal time to spend a balmy morning on the lake. We offer canoes, kayaks, and SUP to rent for the day. Pick your poison, suit up, and head over to Willoughby Lake for the perfect spot to enjoy a paddle.
The views from the lake are exceptional, and even though the water is pretty chilly after spending a few hours in the sun you will be more than ready for a dip in!
If you’ve brought concessions for a picnic lunch, head to the beach to enjoy the beautiful views and a great meal. If not, head back into Lyndonville and treat yourself to a fantastic meal at Sweet Basil Cafe. They aren’t open every day for lunch, but if you’re lucky it’s the perfect place for a healthy, filling, and delicious meal.
From there, head back to the Village Sport Shop to drop off your boats and pick up your bikes! Decide on mountain or road biking, and talk to the mechanic on duty to get yourself fitted for the perfect bike to suit your needs. Before you hit the trails, stop by the Kingdom Trails office for your pass for the trails, and a map of the extensive trail system. Have them map out a route for you leaving from Darling Hill. From there, make your way to Darling Hill Road to enjoy some beginner-intermediate mountain biking and spectacular views. You won’t regret it!
After you’ve worked up an appetite, make your way to River Garden Cafe for some great local grub.
If you can’t part with your bike just yet, hold on to it until the next morning (make sure you arrange for this in advance) so you can hit the trails for a second time.
Hope you enjoy your action packed day!
